Fulfilling Your Goals

Posted on by Marilyn

It’s one thing to set goals, but another thing to fulfill them. At the first of every year many talk of setting a New Year’s resolution. At the same time, they chuckle at how the previous year’s resolution was not fulfilled and so they are attempting to try again.

I’d like to share with you what I have found to be very successful in fulfilling my goals.

I first sit down quietly and seriously consider what I really want to accomplish. Then I write down my goals in short phrases on a 3 x 5 card and put it near my Bible and daily devotional. Some of these goals are small goals and a few are larger. Something that might even take over a year to fulfill, but that’s okay.

Each morning I look at the card and pray. “Lord what one thing can I do today towards fulfilling one of these goals?”

He then impresses upon my heart something that I can do that day towards one specific goal. It might be that it will take 20 minutes of my time to do that one thing or it might take one hour. Whatever it is, I discipline myself to put that time on my to-do list for that very day. You must be disciplined to follow through.

It’s step by step, but soon one by one a goal is fulfilled. The next morning in my prayer time I look at my 3 x 5 card and check off the goal that was completed. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment and inspires me to continue on.

Soon I have a second goal checked off. Now the momentum begins to build. I can now begin to see that even one of my larger goals could be fulfilled. I continue to take it one step at a time, but really zero in on what I want to accomplish.

One of my goals that I thought would take over a year to fulfill was accomplished in a little over 6 months. That really inspired me!

When one or two of the goals are fulfilled, I add another one or two to the list. This makes it a lifestyle and not just something I attempt to do the first of each year and then it fizzles out.

Give it a try; I believe you will be greatly encouraged.

God bless you in your endeavor.
